Celebration Service for Dr. Walter S. BeebeClick to view a larger image, press "back" to return Dr. Wally Beebe "Mr. Bus" Walter Stuart Beebe was born on February 27, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio. Having never been in a fundamental church, he knew nothing about the Bible and being saved. When he was running a gas station on Route 41 in South Florida, a girl gave him a Gospel tract. He went to the back of the station where he changed tires, read the tract, and received Christ as his Saviour. The Holy Spirit opened his eyes, and he immediately turned from the wild life of sin. He began preaching two weeks later and faithfully preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ for 51 years. In 1955, he married his college sweetheart from Momence, Illinois - Winnie Prairie. They have five children: Stuart, Roxann, Jim, Melissa, and Lisa. They have been blessed with 11 grandchildren. Dr. Beebe received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Divinity degrees from Bob Jones University and Doctor of Humanities from Hyles-Anderson College. Best known as "Mr. Bus," Dr. Beebe directed some of the largest bus ministries in America. Some of these are Trinity Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida, under the leadership of Dr. Bob Gray; Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia, under the leadership of Dr. Jerry Falwell; and First Baptist Church, Hammond, Indiana, under the leadership of the late Dr. Jack Hyles. Dr. Hyles once said, "Without a doubt, Dr. Beebe is responsible for more people being in Sunday school and church than any other man." Dr. Beebe published the Church Bus News for 31 years. He sponsored 31 National Bus Conventions. He had a ministry of helps, and every week pastors and Christian workers would call and ask for his advice. He provided scholarships so that many bus kids could attend Christian colleges. Dr. Beebe was Vice President of Hyles-Anderson College at its beginning. For seven years, Dr. Beebe was associated with Dr. John R. Rice on the voting board of the Sword of the Lord newspaper. Also, he spoke in scores of Sword conferences nationwide. Dr. Beebe authored over 17 books and numerous Gospel tracts. His books, All About the Bus Ministry and All About the Second Man, have inspired and trained many believers to serve the Lord in His church. He loved music, preaching, art, motorcycles and cars (especially Cords), Germany, flowers, his grandkids, buying the perfect present, and tinkering in his shop. He could spot a bus with a "For Sale" sign on it one mile away! After many illnesses, he passed away in an Atlanta hospital on October 2, 2002. He received his perfect body and the keys to a gold bus. He also joined his "buddies," Dr. John R. Rice and Dr. Jack Hyles and others, to be in God's presence forever. His life's verse was, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21.
