UPDATE FROM THE HYLES FAMILY:
Thursday, February 1, 2001, 4:35 pm.
At 2:00 pm today, doctors performed an angiogram on Bro. Hyles. The
procedure revealed three arteries in the heart were clogged 80 - 90%
with two others that are clogged to a lesser degree. In addition, the
aortic valve is 60% blocked.
Doctors are advising that he be airlifted to the University of Chicago
Hospital for surgery to replace 4 to 5 arteries and to replace the
aortic valve. The surgery carries a 15 - 20% risk factor.
There is also the presence of a lung infection that is causing a
fever. However, the doctors do not feel that the infection should
hinder the surgery.
Surgery will be performed either this evening or tomorrow morning. A
new update will be issued immediately following the surgery.
Just as a reminder, at the insistence of the family and the hospital, please,
no cards, gifts, flowers, visits or phone calls will be accepted at the hospital.
Thank you for your prayers and concerns.
